About Us.

About Write2Talk

Write2Talk was set up by Leona Talsma as many families and schools were searching for speech and language support in Kent and Medway due to shrinking statutory provision. Against this background, more and more young people are presenting with a communication or specific learning need.  Often parents struggle to have their children’s difficulties recognised or supported.  Schools are also finding it hard to access speech and language therapy for their students.

Meet Our Team

LEONA TALSMA

Speech and Language Therapist and founder of Write2Talk

Having worked as an SLT since 1996 across a variety of public sector settings, I set up Write2Talk to provide a quality, client-centred practice in the heart of Kent.

With specialisms in oro-myo functional disorders, speech and language disorders and extensive additional training in approaches such as oro-myo functional therapy and PROMPT, I am able to offer a range of techniques to best support the young people we serve.  A further specialism in Dyslexia has enabled us to offer diagnostic and intervention support to young people with specific learning difficulties.

As our practice is growing, we are building on our expertise to offer evidence-based interventions that support communication skills in young people.

As an experienced university lecturer, I have learned how to best empower newly qualified SLTs and colleagues within Write2Talk.  Watching people grow in their roles is something I particularly enjoy as part of running a small practice.

JILL EDWARDES

Speech and Language Therapist

I graduated from The University of Greenwich with a first class honours degree in Speech and Language Therapy.

I have experience working with preschool and primary school aged children, particularly those who are non-speaking, have delayed development, expressive and/or receptive language difficulties  or have speech sound disorders.

I believe in a multi-dimensional approach to therapy which is not only functional but is also play based and fun for the children.

Apart from being a Speech and Language Therapist I enjoy hill walking with my family and our beagle, watching football and gardening.

Speech and Language Therapist

I am a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, I graduated from The University of Greenwich, joining the team in 2024.

I also have over twenty years of experience as a primary school teacher and have worked as a Special Needs Coordinator (SENco) for five years.

I am very experienced at working with children with a range of additional needs in mainstream nursery and school settings.  I am particularly interested in working with children with ASD and promoting a neuro-diverse affirming approach to this.  I also enjoy supporting pre-school and primary aged children with language and social communication difficulties.

Speech and Language Therapist

Since 2014, I’ve been dedicated to supporting children as a Speech and Language Therapist, working primarily in primary schools and nurseries, with experience across secondary settings as well. I’m passionate about taking a holistic approach—collaborating closely with parents, educators, and other professionals to create meaningful, child-centred support.

I believe every day is a learning opportunity, and I’m committed to continually evolving my practice through evidence-based approaches that help children thrive.

When I am not working I love spending time with my family and going camping with my children in the summer.
